Mission Statement

Killarney Synchro Swim Club provides for the development of team and individual synchronized swimming skills in a positive and supportive environment promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.

The Club

Killarney Synchro was established in 1982 with its home base pool being Killarney pool in Calgary. Since 1982 we have branched out to all areas of the city and currently practice out of both the SAIT campus pool and Mount Royal College pool. Our program offerings include a beginner stream (Recreational), a Competitive stream (tiers 1 through 5) and a Masters Team (age 18 and up).

Our club is a non-profit organization that is administered by a parent executive in conjunction with a head coach.  Our club does minimal fund raising, however it is mandatory for each swimmer to have parent work one casino every 12 - 18 months.  Optional fund raising opportunities are offered throughout the year to afford the girls a chance to raise funds that can be credited to their own account. We depend on parent volunteers to help us host swim meets as they are designated to us.

Our current membership is 37 girls ranging in age from 8-17 years.  We have 8 qualified coaches on staff each with Level  2 or 3 NCCP certification and many have national "A" level swimming experience.

Our swim year runs from September to the end of May.

About Synchro

In a sports world focused on rough and tumble sports like hockey, football, and soccer, synchronized swimming is like a breath of fresh air.

It is a sport in which 99% of the athletes are female. Synchronized Swimming can be compared to figure skating in that the athletes must master and perform "figures" or compulsory components that are then put together in the performance of a routine. Swimmers are judged both on their skill level in the execution of the compulsory figures as well as the performance of their routine. It is a sport that requires the athlete to have the strength of a weight lifter, the endurance of a competitive swimmer, the preciseness of a diver, the flexibility of a gymnast and the finesse and grace of a ballerina. The end product is a performance that the spectator can truly appreciate!
