We have 9 qualified coaches on staff each with Level 1 or 2 NCCP certification and many have national "A" level swimming experience. Below is some information on a few of our coaches:
I became involved in synchronized swimming when I was seven years old as a swimmer with the Calgary Aquabelles. I competed with the Aquabelles for eight years. During my final season my team placed second at nationals and placed third at the German Open. I retired in June of 1996 and started coaching with the Killarney Synchronized Swimming Club. The 2009-2010 season will be my 14th season coaching with Killarney. In 2000 I was awarded the provincial coach of the year from Synchro Alberta . I am a fully certified Level II coach and am partially certified at Level III having completed the technical and theory components of the program. I will be a fully certified Level III coach this fall. I am also a fully certified American Red Cross Lifeguard and a Water Safety Instructor Trainer. I have my Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR certification. Currently, I am an administrative coordinator with Nexen Inc., an oil and gas company. I am also a volunteer for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and the United Way. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, traveling and scrapbooking.
I am excited about working with all of the athletes at Killarney this year and look forward to a fun and successful season!
SARAH DALLAIRE – 16-18 NATIONAL TEAM COACH
Hi, my name is Sarah. This is my third year coaching with Killarney Synchro and this year I will be working primarily with the Tier 6 team. I began synchronized swimming when I was 10 years old with Killarney Synchro Club and swam for about 10 years, including 2 years of Masters. In that time I won gold in many different categories: duet, solo, team, combo and figures. In the year 2000, I was awarded the provincial B athlete of the year for Synchro Alberta .
I am a fully certified Level II coach. I am fully certified as a Swim for the Life instructor, Water Safety Instructor and CPR instructor. I began my nursing degree in the fall 2008 and I am currently planning a trip to South America for the summer of 2010. I am currently working for the City of Calgary as a lifeguard and swim, instructor. In my spare time I love to ski, travel and spend time with friends and family. I am so excited for the season to come with Killarney and all the girls!
JESSICA TANNER - 16-18 NATIONAL TEAM COACH
Hi all, my name is Jessica! I have my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and am in my final year in the Master of Teaching Program at the University of Calgary. In April I will be one happy graduate with a Bachelor of Education! I am certified in Standard First Aid, CPR, Lifeguarding, and PADI Scuba Diver. I love to read (especially Harry Potter), be active, travel, and spend my spare time with friends and family. I am excited to be getting married this summer up on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, and then heading off for a couple weeks spent in Europe!
This is my sixth year coaching with Killarney synchro, however it is my fifteenth year involved in the sport! I began synchro in a recreational club, but came to Killarney when I was 12 and have been here ever since. In that time I have won numerous medals and awards in duet, figures, team and combo routines, including gold at the 2000 Alberta Winter Games, 2002, 2003 and 2004 MASY Challenge, and numerous first places in team, combo and solo at the Masters competitions. In a nut shell, I absolutely love the pool and synchronized swimming! It has been amazing to watch synchro continue to evolve as a sport, and I look forward to more coaching in the future!
JACKLYN HOLMES-SMITH – 13-15 PROVINCIAL TEAM COACH
Hi everyone, I'm Jacklyn and I am currently in my third year of coaching
with Killarney synchro. I finished my coaching certification this year and
now am a fully certified competitive coach. I swam for four years with
Killarney before coaching. In those four years I swam team, duet and
combo, receiving gold medals in all of those categories. Before swimming
for Killarney, I swam 4 years of recreation with the Crowfoot YMCA. I am
currently in completing my third year at the University of Calgary
studying biological sciences. I have my first aid certification and am
trained in CPR. Over the past three years coaching with Killarney I have
coached Tiers 1-4 in duets, solos and team. This year I am coaching the
Tier 2/3 team, a Tier 1 solo, and a Tier 3 duet. I am looking forward to
seeing all the girls compete and be successful this year.
JULI DUHAMEL- ASSISTANT COACH, PROVINCIAL STREAM PROGRAM
It is my pleasure to be coaching at Killarney Synchro once again this year. This will be my 8th year coaching with Killarney and my 15th year coaching. In 2008 I was awarded the competitive coach of the year award from Synchro Alberta .
Previously, I have coached in Red Deer , which was also where I swam, and in Ontario with Kawartha Trent Synchro. I love coaching and I love seeing the girls improve each year. I am very excited to be coaching again this year.
When I am not at the pool I am a teacher with the Calgary Catholic School Board. I am currently teaching a grade one/two split class. I also love traveling and spent my summer exploring South America!
JESSIE DRABINSKY - 12 & UNDER TEAM COACH
I have been involved in synchronized swimming for most of my life. I was a swimmer for 13 years, beginning at the age of 7. Eight of these years I was a member of the Calgary Aquabelles. I have had many accomplishments in my history with synchro. To name a few, in 2006 I was named to the Canadian National B Team and just last year I received an award for ‘Most Promising Coach Of The Year’ for my work with the tier one team/solo/duets that I coached. In the summer of 2007 I swam for Hawaii Synchro at the US Open and placed second in the solo event. In 2008, my last swim before retirement, I competed at the Oceana Games in New Zealand and took home the gold for both my solos. This is my first year coaching for Killarney Synchro; I hope the girls can learn a lot from my experiences and I hope to learn a lot from them! I am looking forward to a great year.
SHELBY ANTYMIS - 13-15 PROVINCIAL TEAM COACH
TIANNA GEREMIA - 10 & UNDER PROVINCIAL STREAM
MYRNA KRUGER - PRE-COMPETITIVE COACH
Hi, my name is Myrna Kruger and my daughter, Adora, is currently swimming with the KSSC. I am also the mother to 5 other children. I fell in love with Synchro while attending my sister’s competitions. I joined the Calgary Aquabelles at 10 years of age and swam for 7 years. During my last year, I swam on the Senior A Team with Michelle Cameron, where we won the Swedish Open.
Once I retired from Synchro, I coached with the Aquabelles for 2 years then moved to Nanaimo, BC where I began a Synchro program. I started with 5 swimmers which grew to 30 swimmers, 5 years later. The Nanaimo Diamonds are still going strong today.
I left coaching for a synchronized swimming position at Expo 88 in Brisbane, Australia; afterwards I did another show in Hiroshima, Japan. I returned to Calgary in 1990 to pursue a career in architectural drafting, eventually returning to coaching with the Aquabelles in 1994 for another 2 years. I then became involved with Underwater Hockey as an athlete and a coach.
In 2001, I returned to Synchro as a master’s swimmer, where our team won gold at the World Master Games and the last 3 FINA Master World Championships.
I look forward to year coaching with KSSC!
